Litchfield NP to Focus on 4WDing

Camper Trailer Australia — 7 December 2015

Parks NT, with the help of 4WD NT, is seeking to identify and open up new 4WD tracks and campsites within Litchfield National Park as part of a $39 million overhaul.

A Memorandum of Understanding between the two bodies was announced in Litchfield NP's Draft Management Plan released in October 2015, which identified the ‘limited range of adventure type recreational opportunities’ as one of 11 threats to values of visitors to NT's most visited national park.

Other proposals tabled in the plan include sealing the route to Wangi Falls Campground and redeveloping the site to improve access for larger caravans and motorhomes, promote and formalise camping at Florence Falls, and to increase the number of campsites at Surprise Creek Falls from 10 to 25.

The plan identified several opportunities for private developers, including a recommendation to establish a glass walkway or swing bridge at Tolmer Falls.

The draft plan recommended continued upkeep of the Reynolds River 4WD identifying it as an important link to the east end of the park.
